The Typing Speed Test measures how quickly and accurately you can type given sentences within a time limit. Results are shown as CPM (Characters Per Minute), which determines your typing rank. Korean's unique character system of combining consonants and vowels requires different rhythms and finger movements compared to English typing. Average Korean typing speed is about 200-350 CPM, while professional typists can record over 500 CPM. Use this test to objectively assess your current typing skills and improve speed through consistent practice.
CPM (Characters Per Minute) means characters typed per minute, while WPM (Words Per Minute) means words typed per minute. English-speaking countries mainly use WPM (typically 5 characters = 1 word), but CPM is a more accurate measurement unit for Korean due to its combined character characteristics. Roughly, Korean CPM รท 4-5 equals WPM.
The most effective method is learning touch typing. Starting from the home position, practice hitting the correct key with each designated finger. Even if slow at first, prioritizing accuracy builds muscle memory that naturally increases speed.
30 seconds is the optimal duration for maintaining concentration and measuring maximum ability. Longer tests can measure lower than actual ability due to fatigue accumulation in later portions. Taking the test multiple times and checking the average is most accurate.
